Sri Lanka Air Force Jets clash:One Pilot Killed

(NIDAHASA News) Two Israeli-built Kfir bomber jets of Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) crashed in a fly-past rehearsal today (01) morning killing one pilot at Yakkala in Gampaha, Defense Ministry says.

The body of one pilot, Flight Lt. Monash Perera has been found at the crash site, Air Force said. Squadron Leader Vajira Jayakody survived with serious injuries. One civilian wounded by the crash.

The aircraft were reportedly rehearsing for the fly-past aerobatics and a skydiving display for the 60th anniversary of the air force. The celebration is scheduled to be start on Wednesday (02).

President Mahinda Rajapaksa who has been invited as the chief guest for the event at the Ratmalana air base visited the scene of the accident.

Those jets were used in the 30 year long civil war which was ended in 2009.
